Our goal is to create a location where innovative solutions are researched and applied. In doing so, we are creating the foundation for a new urban way of life and a blueprint for future living spaces. An abandoned village in Spain is revived and serves as a real-life prototype for innovative concepts.

An innovation hub is located in the centre of the village and serves as an interdisciplinary meeting point. Training programmes and workshops are offered in the Humanotop Aldea to strengthen knowledge transfer and develop the concept of the Humanotop beyond the boundaries of the Spanish village.

The site selection is based on the results of a student final thesis. Spain has seen an increased migration from rural areas into cities in recent decades.

Abandoned villages – so-called Abandonadas – offer a perfect foundation for the Humanotop with a basic infrastructure and the combination of areas available for building, agriculture, and nature.

Through vertical farming, green roofs and raised beds, the entire urban area is planned to be usable for food production and as a biotope. Our goal is to ensure sustainable yields and to promote biodiversity and soil health in the long term. Cultivation will be adapted to local conditions.

To achieve a sustainable water supply, abstraction, storage, and return are designed to keep the natural water cycle in balance. By integrating water storage systems into the natural ecosystem, synergies are created between the urban water supply and the natural water cycle.
